Mallorca - Palma Boat Show

 Dream_Boat

The glitz and glamour of luxury yachts and motor cruisers will fill the harbour in the port of Palma, Mallorca between 24th April and 2nd May. This year sees the 27th running of International Palma Boat Show and gives the island a chance to show it's marine credentials to international companies and potential buyers. For the general public the boat show also creates a cosmopolitan atmosphere that merely adds to Palma's attraction as one of the nicest holiday cities in Europe.

There are several ports and marinas around Mallorca's interesting coastline, including the large port at Alcudia in the north and the smaller port in the pretty town of Port de Soller. Another stunning harbour setting is the interior marina at Porto Christo on the east coast, where a perfect afternoon can be spent on the beach or in the cafes along the promenade watching the world go by.

Along the coast around Palma there are numerous marinas, with the boat show being based at the Old Harbout in the heart of the Port of Palma. The organisers are expecting to host a large show this year with over 1000 crafts on display on land and a further 330 vessels in sea moorings. One of the sections where dreams can be relived is the superyacht section. Wealthy potential buyers from all over the world will visit the show to view the latest creations of the superyacht designers and possibly take out boats for a sea trial. For most of us this is a place just to sit back, watch and dream, but there is no doubt that these boats make a wonderful sight.

The boating community of the Balearic islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza is a large one, with an estimated 25,000 leisure boats based on the islands plus a further 50,000 other boats which pass through the islands on their voyages each year.

The orgainsers are expecting to cater for over 50,000 visitors over the nine days of the show. Half of these will be involved in the show from the trade side, while the other half will be the general public interested in either buying a yacht or cruiser or just there to look at the many interesting boats on show. If you are in Mallorca during the show and want to go along to visit the boat show, then tickets are priced at only six Euros, with discounts for younger people.
