For many holiday resorts the off season is often a period of complete downtime as far as events are concerned, but places like Malta always seem to have something going on to interest visitors.
Malta is an island with huge depths of tradition and the regular cultural events that celebrate the historical events of the island continue throughout the year. During April, one of those is the Mdina Medieval Pageant and Flower Festival that happens between the 9th and 11th of April this year. Mdina is the former capital of the island and a wonderful medieval town in the centre of the island. The Romans built a great palace there and it was once the seat of the island's government. The narrow streets of the town are now largely closed to traffic and make a great setting for the celebrations of life in the middle ages.
All kinds of characters in period costume will roam the streets and of course the Knights that once occupied the island will be showcasing some of the most spectacular outfits. Birds of Prey, jousting tournaments and even medieval football matches will be re-enacted.
April is a great time to experience Malta, not least because the weather promises to be warm and sunny and with all kinds of other events planned, there is bound to be more than enough to fill a week or two of exploration on this fascinating island.
Starting in April, the flythomascook.com schedule of flights to Malta increases, so there will be numerous flights each week departing from a choice of UK airports.
