If you are visiting Mallorca and like to eat out in the best restaurants then a visit to one of the island's top eateries ought to be on your schedule.

Foodies visiting the UK don't often get the chance to experience a visit to one of the few 3 Michelin Star restaurants here, primarily because they book up well in advance and reservations are almost always required. The Fat Duck, the Waterside Inn or Gordon Ramsey are the only three with that rating in the UK but there are around 16 two star restaurants and more than a hundred one star restaurants. It's quite difficult to keep track of this category as they change fairly regularly with around 25 restaurants gaining their star this year and around 10 losing it.

On Mallorca, there are five Michelin starred restaurants. One with a spectacular setting. and proud of its two stars, is the Tristan Restaurant in Calvia, overlooking the marina at Puerto Portals, 5 miles west of Palma. Of course the food is amazing, as is the outlook from the terrace that offers views past some of the biggest yachts and motor cruisers in the marina.

The other four restaurants each have one star. The Bacchus Restaurant in the small but luxurious Read's Hotel has won many other awards for its food. The high, vaulted ceiling in the main dining room makes for an impressive setting in this restaurant that is situated in the countryside between Santa Maria and Alaro in the middle of the island. Not far away in Deia is the Es Raco des Teix Restaurant, another place with amazing views and the business of German chef Josef Sauerschell. Outdoor dining here is an experience not to be missed.

After opening just four years earlier, Chef Tomeu Caldentey was awarded a Michelin star in 2004 for his Es Moli den Bou Restaurant, located in Sa Coma on the east coast of the island between Porto Cristo and Cala Millor. Finally the Arabella Golf resort in Son Vida boasts the Plat d'Or Restaurant to the north west of Palma.
