The Milanio Maritime Museum is situated in the magnificent seaside resort at Tsilivi, at a distance of 5 km from Zante. The Naval fleet at Zante got the museum opened and the Museum houses several maritime artifacts.
A Greek painter with the name of Antonis Milanos founded the museum. He strove to study the way Maritime Greece evolved from 2000 BC to this day. He has captured all of it in 140 water colors. He gathered all the information in bits and pieces of the entire duration of 4000 years into what the museum is today. The museum is multidimensional as it is of pictorial, historical, educational and cultural nature.
The museum presents exclusivity of the past 5 significant periods without even a single gap in between the histories of all. It brings out the various characteristics of Antiquity, the Byzantium, the Greek Revolution that occurred in 1821, the evolution from the sails to use of steam in the 19th century and the Modern era of the 20th century.
The Milanio Maritime Museum presents several varieties of ships belonging to the Byzantine Navy that were brought forth the first time in the past several hundred years. Antonis Milanos went into great depth to gather knowledge about the naval history and found out about several ships, presenting it in 43 colors in all at the museum.
The gallery of the museum also has photographs, historical relics, books, naval uniforms, ship models and even documents belonging to the period between 1940 and 1941. It will be like a great trip for children interested in knowing more about how Naval forces evolved. The museum organizes a documentary film which is all about the war that occurred in 1941.
