It has some mysterious caves that stay cool and pleasant no matter what, as they are full of stalagmites and stalactites in some very attractive colors.

Monastery of St. Gerassimos is another fantastic place worth exploring especially for people interested in learning and knowing more about the history of a place. It is also for people who can truly admire the architectural beauty of a building. Saint Gerassimos was monk who was ordained at Mt. Athos. He is believed to have gone for 12 years to Jerusalem spending little time at Zakynthos and Crete, and then arriving at Kefalonia in 1555. He is also said to have spent initial 5 years at a cave in a town called Lassi. As you take the main road going towards Lassi you will see a prominent signpost named Saint Gerasimos first Kefalonia hermitage. Further up ahead is a small church that was made in memory of Saint Gerassimos. It is almost half way towards the end and also accommodates a cave. This is the cave where the saint lived for a while. Today it has a natural way out that offers a beautiful view of the sea.

The church can be visited from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the reopens at 3 p.m. and continues to welcome tourists till 9 at night. It was in 1560 that the saint traveled to a valley called Omala. Here he constructed a country chapel again and also started a childrens nunnery called New Jerusalem. Several locals will tell you that his favorite words were Children be peaceful with yourselves and dont think high. Saint Gerasimos was also considered to be water diviner, teacher and even a healer.

People say that he brought a lot of peace around himself and sought it by staying in a cave. He contributed by creating a lot of water wells with his people in the area around the monastery. His remains have been preserved properly here and several pilgrims flock around Greece to have a look at them. They have been kept in a relic case at the tomb made just below the church.
