MTV on Malta

If you're on Malta today (30 June 2010), you're probably one of 50,000 youngsters from all over Europe, having a ball. You will most certainly be at Fosos Square because Isle of MTV, Malta's biggest free open-air party is on! There is a great line-up with Scissor Sisters, David Guetta and Kid Rock.
Chances are you haven't booked yourfligths to Malta for the festival only. If you want a bit of tranquility for the rest of the week, head to The Chinese Gardens in Santa Lucija. Made up of rocks and water, the garden was designed in the early '90s so that those who enter will go through their personal rebirth as they leave the stresses of modern life behind and this special place is worth your time when visiting Malta.
Pastizzi are Malta's most popular snack and consumed by locals and visitors alike. Pastizzi are hot, delicate pastries formed of multiple layers of dough, baked and filled with either ricotta cheese or peas.
Maltese cuisine is typically Mediterranean and features many fish dishes. Maltese food is rustic and based on regional produce. Local dishes include minestra, which is a thick vegetable soup, mqarrun il-forn, meaning oven baked macaroni filled with meat sauce, egg, peas and bacon, and ravjul which is ravioli filled with ricotta. Rabbit is also a primary fixture of the cuisine here. But vegetarians can also eat well in Malta as there are myriad vegetable, rice and pasta dishes on offer.
Souvenir shops in Malta are abundant and can be found almost everywhere. Top souvenirs include filigree jewellery, hand-made Malta lace, brass Maltese door knockers, glass ornaments and hand-crafted pottery.
