Music Towers above Palma

The towering Bellver Castle, situated in the woods high above the city of Palma in Mallorca, is home to an annual music festival during July.
Bellver Castle in Palma de Mallorca is unusual in that it is one of only a few circular castles in Europe. Located about 3 kilometers away from the centre of Palma, the castle sits in a high location, 112 metres above sea level and provides stunning views of the city below and the bay of Palma beyond. Translated, Bellver means "beautiful view" and that's certainly what awaits anyone coming to the castle. The castle provides a new perspective on the city below which is more difficult to appreciate from sea level. From the castle visitors can also see northwards to other parts of the island.
This amazing Gothic castle was built in the early part of the fourteenth century and features a central circular area surrounded by four other towers. It is an imposing structure both from the outside and the inside and well worth investigating. The castle is open to visitors every day throughout the year with extended opening hours until 20:30 during the summer except on Sundays and public holidays when its opening hours are 10:00 until 17:00.
During July, Bellver Castle is one of the venues used for classical music concerts. The following month the British singer/songwriter Billy Bragg will perform at Bellver Castle on 15th August.
On 18th July there are other performances as part of Palma's 2nd Music and Dance Festival when visitors can see dance acts at 3 venues around the city. These are free to attend and can be found at Placa dels Capellers, Carrer de Sant Miquel and Placa de Espanya.
