Pamukkale is a mineral bath spa and it is located in Turkey about twelve miles to the north of the city of Denizli. This bath spa is very popular with both tourists and locals due to its wealth of natural beauty. This bath spa is filled with calcium laden hot water that is taken from springs within the earth. These springs cascade over the cliffs. This attraction is very popular with tourists from all across the world that make use of the frequent flights to Turkey.
Pamukkale has been used as a spa for many years and its history dates back to the Roman times, when they built the spa city that is known as Hierapolis. This spa city was built around a sacred spring with warm waters. The sacred pool is still at this location and it is now littered with marble columns that have been taken from the Temple of Apollo. It is possible to swim in this pool for free.
This bath spa was once at the top of the list of places for backpackers to visit. A lot of these adventurous travelers and backpackers would stay within the hotels in the town. There are a lot of people that enjoy basking in the mineral waters that are within these pools and they can enjoy a relaxed laid back atmosphere.
During the 1990's the local authority undertook at campaign for development and this was done in an attempt to increase the level of tourism in the area and also improve the spa. Despite the aims of the development the work actually led to fewer visitors coming to the area and this was due to word going around that Pamukkale had been ruined. Although it is very true that this area is not what it once was there are still many reasons why this area is worth visiting. One of the advantages of this area is that it makes the perfect place for an overnight stop.
