Paragliding is probably one of the most adventurous and exhilarating sports in the world, probably close to bungee jumping. It is also one of the easiest things to learn if you are interested in adventure sports. Every year the International Paragliding Festival is organized by the Town Council of Los Realejos. The idea behind starting this festival was to promote the flight area of Los Realejos along with booting the tourism in the region. Though Tenerife is quite famous for other activities and events, most holidaymakers look to indulge in some adventure activity during their time off. Water sports are quite famous all over the world, however paragliding as an activity for foreign visitors is quite unique.

There are several flights to Tenerife and can be booked through the Thomas Cook website. The International Paragliding Festival is organized in the months of April and May every year, with some of the worlds most prominent personalities taking part in the event. Apart from paragliding, the event also involves parachuting and hang gliding. Though it started small, the festival has soon gained prominence more due to the great weather conditions that Tenerife offers for the sports throughout the year.

Two new world records were set in the first year itself, with the paramotor altitude going to 5,395 meters. The other one was the acrobatics achieving 75 maneuvers in vertical tumbles at a height of 1900 meters. The first day of the festival is usually dedicated to welcoming the participants followed by the official opening of the event. Different activities start from the next day onwards. The closing ceremony too is quite spectacular with music concerts arranged to mark the end of the festival.

The festival is arranged by FLYPA and looks to showcase different aspects of Tenerife such as, tourism, nature, beach, mountains, culture and sports, traditions and festivities.
