Fuerteventura is one of the Islands among other Canary Islands and is actually the oldest one too. There are some flights to Fuerteventura and you can further travel to explore the city using the local transport or hire a car. Interesting places to visit in Fuerteventura include Antigua, Giniginamar and a village called Villaverde.
The Island was formed in the current location because of volcanic eruptions that took place almost 70 million years ago. The landscape that tourists admire today is because of the weathering of the rocks formed because of the volcano. Fuerteventura is located at the easternmost tip of the Canary Islands. It is located around 60 miles from Morocco. The proximity to the Sahara has been beneficial rather than being a disadvantage. Thats because the sand from Sahara has traveled over the past few decades and this has made Fuerteventura full of sandy beaches. The beaches span close to 125 miles throughout the place. Fuerteventura is known to sport some of the worlds top beaches.
Antigua is a tiny place in Fuerteventura that covers only a few 200 meters over the sea level. The elevation created because of this has made the location excellent for installation of windmills and harness the energy of the constantly blowing wind. Apart from the restored windmill there is a unique cactus garden that is being maintained in the town. It also contains craft shops where locally made crafts can be purchased.
The village called Villaverde is a fine place here located to the northern side of La Oliva. People here celebrate a fiesta in the memory of St Vincent Ferrer starting March 31st to April 9th. The village is tiny but has an agricultural museum. There are a couple of restored windmills on the ridge well known in the village. Most tourists dont fail to click a photo here. There are some scenic views from Mount Tindaya and La Oliva if you stand on the ridge.
Giniginamar is another place that can be visited. It is located on the main street. It has a modern looking church called Nuestra Snra del Carmen. The church was constructed in 1992. It also has a beach made up of pebbles rather than sand.
You can play in the water with family and friends as it is quite safe because the bay has been declared as a protected zone considering the biological interest that scholars have developed in the recent times. Overall Fuerteventura is a great place to be and take a week out if you want to visit each of the villages and towns.
