Port de Soller Festival on Mallorca

Music and the island of Mallorca seem to be very closely linked and the pretty port of Soller hosted its own series of concerts during September and October this year.
Palma, the capital of Mallorca, has a very full musical event calendar, with concerts of all styles including classical, jazz and modern pop being included. But Palma is not the only town to focus on music in a big way and many smaller towns around the island put on their own individual concerts or festivals throughout the year. Towns like Alcudia and Pollensa promote several events through the year and festivals like ones in Deia and Valldemossa have international reputations.
The Port of Soller is located in the north west of the island on the other side of the Tramuntana mountains from Palma and can be reached by road, either through a tunnel or a winding mountain road. Another way of getting to Soller is by vintage train, along a restored railway track that also travels through several mountain tunnels. The Classic Music Festival at Soller started on 26th September with the first of four concerts that took place on each of four consecutive Saturdays. The concerts featured performances on piano, violin, viola and clarinet and were all held in the Soller's Museu del Mar. The first concert was a piano recital by Moscow-born Alexander Malter, who graduated from the Tschaikovsky Conservatory in 1969 and has played concerts internationally ever since. The final concert on 17th October will be performed by the talented Dresden String Trio who have been playing together since 1995.
