Royal Sailing in Mallorca

Very few things are more glamorous than late summer sailing whilst rubbing shoulders with royalty. Head to Palma de Mallorca in late August as, during the Copa del Rey regatta, 16th to 22nd August, the Spanish Royal family, celebrities and sailing fiends will spill out onto the bay to enjoy a week of the finest Mediterranean sailing by day and glamorous galas by night.
The Copa Del Rey Audi Mapfre regatta is part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Regattas circuit that spans around some of the most picturesque bays in the Mediterranean. The Copa del Rey is in its 28th edition, being founded in 1982. The Asociacion Nacional de Cruceros and the Real Club Nautico de Palma organized the first edition of the Copa with just 50 boats across all classes. The 84 and 85 editions witnessed the leadership of Bribon and set the tradition, still valid, of H.M. Juan Carlos racing in his own regatta. The event has grown into one of the most prestigious European regattas, boasting competitors from the America's Cup teams.
As well as the overall winner of the regatta being awarder the prestigious XXVIII Almirante Conde de Barcelona Trophy, the winner of each heat for each class is presented with a limited edition Officine Panerai. The Radiomir Regatta 1/8th Second Titanio 47mm is a chronograph.
Many charity events presided over by the Spanish Royal Family and other dignitaries are scheduled during the week, and these are open to the paying public as well as the participants to the regattas. Charity dinners, concerts and the trophy presentation gala on the final day of the races provide bountiful entertainment for sailors and jet setters alike. If stuffy dinners are not your scene, the whole of the bay fetes the participants and partakes in the aura of glamour and partying that surrounds the events - you'll be bound to find something that floats your boat.
Flythomascook operates regular flights to Mallorca from several UK airports this summer. There is no need to pack your wet weather gear for a spot of Mediterranean sailing.
