Selecting a new Camera for your Holiday

Recording the highlights of a great holiday is something most people look to do but with the rush to pack everything before heading to the airport, the camera is something that tends to be left until the last minute. However once in the airport terminal with the bright lights of the duty-free lounge shining and the holiday spirit kicking in, the temptation of the electronics store is too much for some. But buying a new camera at the airport is probably not the ideal thing to do. Perhaps you can pick up a best buy magazine from the airport newsagent before you buy but you won't have much time to read the reviews in depth. Also the choice of models offered may be restricted.
Far better to plan your holiday photographic purchase a little earlier, do your research and get the best price by shopping around. Also you'll have time to read the manual and get used to your camera by taking a few test shots before you go away. Here are some other points to consider.
Don't be swayed by the number of megapixels being offered. For most compact cameras the capability of the camera is already ample for most people and a few extra megapixels is just a marketing feature. Read some best buy reports and follow the advice offered. There are other practical factors that mean much more when taking a camera on holiday.
Make sure you'll be able to recharge the batteries whilst on holiday. Camera batteries are very good now but for a two week holiday you may need to recharge at some point. Also invest in a good case too. Most cameras don't include a proper case now and you'll need one to protect you new equipment from knocks, dust, sand and splashes whilst away. Finally make sure you have enough capacity in terms of memory cards. Better to buy two smaller cards instead of one big one just in case there is a problem.
