Seven Wonders Of Portugal

The public still have several months to vote on what they regard to be the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal, in a competition aimed at promoting some of the country's most beautiful natural areas.

From an original list of over 300 entries, the competition has now be narrowed down to just 21 finalists, with voting starting last week and continuing until early September. The Algarve region has 3 locations amongst the remaining finalists, so tourists who get the chance to visit any of these locations during a stay on the Algarve can expect something special.

The first area, a finalist in the "Beaches and Cliffs" section, is the headland in Carrapateira. The village of Carrapateira on the Algarve is just a small place with a scattering of whitewashed houses and villas, but the beach here is large and very beautiful. Surfers love the region as sea conditions make it perfect for their sport, but the winds can deter those seeking a quiet day on the beach sometimes. Carrapateira is situated in the western Algarve, about an hour and half from Faro airport.

Then there is the spectacular headland at Sagres and finally the Ria Formosa competes in the Marine Area category.
