Sharm el Sheikh's impressive coral reef and crystalline waters have deservedly garnered its reputation as one of the best scuba diving locations on earth.
Add to that its buzzing bazaars, seductive weather and exotic location and it's easy to see that Sharm el Sheikh is more than just a holiday, it's an adventure.
Located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula on the Red Sea, Sharm el Sheikh was, up until a few decades ago, a sleepy a fishing village which has grown into a top international resort. The average temperatures during the winter months range from 15 to 35 degrees C, while during the summer months from 20 to 45 degrees C. The temperature of the Red Sea in this region ranges from 21 to 28 degrees C. Sharm el Sheikh has year round sunshine, therefore hot and sunny weather is practically guaranteed no matter when you travel here.
The beaches are not typically long stretches of sand although the best beaches in Sharm can be found in Na'ama Bay. This area is the only place where swimmers can enter the sea straight from the beach. In the other resorts here, the coral reefs are in very close proximity to the shore which is great for snorkeling but it also means that swimmers must walk along piers or floating pontoons to take a swim. But it's a quick stroll and the lovely sea is so inviting that visitors don't mind the extra steps.
Sharm el-Maya or Old Sharm is the oldest and most authentically Egyptian part of Sharm el Sheikh. It has a hectic market, busy port area and one can easily hear the atmospheric call to prayer from the mosque here.
Sharm el Sheikh has so many hotels and villas from luxury to budget for families, couples and singles.
