Spring Forward in Mallorca

Calendars have already been flipped over to March and now on to April, and Spring has certainly arrived on the island of Mallorca. Temperatures are nudging their way towards 70 degrees Fahrenheit and the island is a picture of new life with orchards all over the island proudly displaying their almond blossom.

Businesses across the island will see this as a sign that the holiday season is about to arrive and will be preparing themselves for the millions of people who come to the island for a holiday each year. A popular attraction in March every year is the Fira del Ram, a touring amusement park that will spend around 6 weeks on the island at Poligono de Son Fusteret. It is regarded as one of the best fairs to come to Mallorca during the year and is well known for its exciting rides. It's a great option for a family afternoon or evening out, as there are also more sedate rides such as a ferris wheel for those who prefer their adrenalin levels to remain under control. The fair is open until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Music fans may have been interested in a concert taking place on 11th March at the Palma Conservatory. The Stanley Jordan Trio may not have the international recognition of some music stars, but the leader of this band has been playing and studying music since he was just a six year old child living in Chicago. Guitar aficionados will certainly be interested as this Jazz guitarist has a very unique style of playing that creates some amazing sounds. The concert started at 20:30 and the cost of the tickets was 25 Euros. Classical music fans were looking forward to a concert on the 29th of March at the "Es Baulard" museum in Palma when works by Brahms, Hugo Wolf and Josef Rheinberger were performed. The concert started at 20:45 and the tickets cost up to 16 Euros.

Football is receiving a lot of attention at the moment on Mallorca, with the island's team RCD Mallorca, positioned well up in Spain's top league. With teams like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona to compete against, the top spot is usually out of reach for all the other clubs, but Mallorca are doing well in 5th position currently, just 3 points behind 4th place Seville. So you could expect to see some excited fans if are around when the team is playing a home game. Recent home games were on 7th March against Sporting Gijon and on 21st March against Atletico Madrid. The team's biggest game of the season was undoubtedly the home game against FC Barcelona on 28th March.
