The city also consists of some significant historical landmarks that cannot be overlooked. Out of them The Chapel of the Burning Bush is a must watch as it is a 6th century Chapel. During the 4th century the mother of Constantine named St. Helena constructed the Chapel of the Burning Bush. It has been built at the area where Moses was supposed to have seen the burning bush. The bush was burnt but the Lord who was calling out to Moses was not harmed even a bit.
The strong walls were constructed surrounding the chapel by a Byzantine emperor. He was also a great church builder and went by the name Justinian. This was in 527. The Church of the Transfiguration is known to have been completed in 560 when Justinian was on his death bed.
St. Catherines Monastery is another such known place which happens to be an important historical Christian monastery. St. Catherines monastery shows the burning bush episode of Moses and also has a couple of other significant icons. Just over the monastery is Mount Sinai which is believed to be the place at which Moses got the Ten Commandments from God. As God is said to have communicated with Moses in these areas, it is considered significant by three major world religions viz. Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The monasterys real name is the Monastery of the Transfiguration. It was only a couple of years later that it was linked to with St. Catherine from Alexandria. Alexandria was a martyr from the 3rd century whose hand and head were brought in the monastery for keeping it safely.
