Stars travel to Antalya to open new hotel

The world of show business comes to Antalya in Turkey this weekend as a large new hotel prepares for a grand opening following a delay from the original planned date in February. Stars including Tom Jones and Maria Carey will take to the stage and perform while others such as Paris Hilton, Sharon Stone and Richard Gere are amongst the invited guests of the Mardan Palace hotel.
The presense of Ms Hilton is perhaps no great surprise given her hotel connections. Paris Hilton is a great granddaughter of the Hilton hotel chain's founder Conrad Hilton.
The hotel prides itself on its luxurious rooms and suites, the 24 bars and restaurants and a luxury spa complex that includes a replica Turkish Hamam. The hotel has 560 rooms, its own nightclub and a range of onsite sporting facilities. Some of the suites in the hotel have their own Turkish bath and the Royal Suites even have their own private swimming pool. A golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus has not yet been completed.
The whole complex has been built by Russian property developers AST, whose chairman, Telman Ismailov, has built his own 40 room gold-domed mansion in the grounds of the hotel. The development is another sign of the continuing confidence in the future of this part of Turkey as a tourist destination.
