The temple of Augustus is located within Ankara in Turkey. Ankara is the second biggest city in Turkey after Istanbul. This attraction is very popular with a vast array of people and they come from all across the world using the regular cheap flights to Turkey. The Temple of Augustus is often referred to as the Monumentum Ancyranum and it was built between 25BC and 20BC. This temple was built following the conquest of the Roman Empire and also following the formation of Galatia, which is a Roman province.

This attraction is just one of the many things that people can see and do within this areas as there is a vast array of different things that people can choose to see and do within this area. Augustus died during 14AD and following this a copy of some of the text from the Res Gestae Divi Augusti was transcribed in Latin and it was written on the wall of the temple.

The Romans enlarged the original temple during the second century. During the fifth century this temple was actually transformed into a church, which was used by the Byzantines. This temple is located within the Ulus quarter of Ankara city.

The city of Ankara was a very important area for the Romans however during this time it was actually only classed as a town. There is a vast number of artifacts that proves how important this area actually was for the Romans. The temple is pretty much ruins nowadays however it is still possible to experience this great structure and historical part of the city.
