Many holiday resorts around Europe will be putting the finishing touches to their summer event plans, with several places set to hold music festivals. These multi-act events usually last several days and can attract huge audiences, especially if the mix of artists caters for a wide range of tastes.
The Algarve's annual Rock One festival takes place near Portimao and last year featured artists like James Morrison, Linkin Park and Bloc Party. Gran Canaria hosts its own WOMAD festival during November each year and the Bulgarian resort of Burgas has been running the Spirit of Burgas festival for several years now. As far as single concerts go, the Canary Islands often struggle to compete with mainland Europe for the attention of international artists. That is probably due to the limits of venues to hold large audiences and the cost of transporting equipment by sea to the islands.
Several artists have however overcome those problems and performed in the Canary Islands in the past including Elton John, Gloria Estefan and Rod Stewart. This year Tenerife will see another international artist perform on the island.
Whitney Houston is due to perform a concert on Tenerife on 30th April this year. This concert will be the only one she gives in Spain. Houston has been an international star since the release of her first record-breaking album in 1985 and has recently released a new album entitled "I Look To You". Ticket prices start at 40 Euros with costs increasing through a range of choices right up to a 300 Euro VIP Platinum ticket. The concert will be held in the port area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is part of a tour that sees Houston performing throughout the UK in addition to Australia, France, Italy and Germany.
