The Canary Islands are still a popular choice for Brits taking an Easter sunshine break. A relatively short flight and almost guaranteed fine weather makes Tenerife one of the safe choices.

Temperatures regularly reach the low seventies (21 degrees Celsius) consistently during early April, so lazy days on one of the island's great beaches is certainly on the cards, but for other forms of attraction and entertainment, Tenerife is also a place full of choices.

Amongst the events to choose from this April are concerts, art exhibitions and even a chess tournament. Chess may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of combining a hobby with a holiday, but the 4th International Laguna chess competition brought hundreds of players from around Europe to Tenerife for a week which started on the 5th of April.

Musical events during the month included a performance by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra on 9th April at the Auditoria de Tenerife. The concert, which started at 8:30pm included works by Ravel and Debussy and was part of the orchestra's 2010 season of performances at the venue.

Children and adults alike may have enjoyed one of the performances of the Slava Snowshow, which also took place at the Auditorio de Tenerife between 7th and 11th April. The show is the creation of Slava Polunin, one of the founders of the famous Cirque du Soleil. Slava's creation has captivated audiences amounting to millions over the 15 years it has toured the world. The show has even been a hit on Broadway and its unique form of "clowning" is a real spectacle.

Exhibitions on Tenerife during April include "The Age of Rodin" at the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz which runs until 30th April and showcases over fifty of Rodin's sculptures plus some by related artists. The Thinker is possibly Rodin's most well known work and will be part of the exhibition.
