One of Tenerife's more interesting sporting events took place during March, starting from the town of La Laguna.
The running event on the 21st of March, that was contested by teams of 7 athletes working in relay, used a route of 100 kilometers that was split into seven stages. Entry into the race was not cheap at 200 Euros per team, but there were some valuable cash prizes on offer with the main category winners receiving 800 Euros. Teams were also allowed to nominate two reserves in their teams, but each single runner could only complete one leg of the race.
If you enjoy running and teamwork, and want to get to see more of this wonderful island: you missed out! This was the perfect opportunity to combine those aspirations. The individual stages of the race varied in length from the short opening leg of 6.8 km that started at 8:30 in the morning, up to the longest leg of 15.3km which the fourth runner had to complete from Las Heidras to Tejina. Potentially the most arduous leg was the final one that was almost 12 kilometers in length and also included a change in altitude of almost 800m.
Other towns on the route included Las Carboneras, El Batan, Bajamar and Valle de Guera.
The event finished in the pretty and shaded square of the Plaza del Adelantado in La Laguna at around 6pm in the afternoon. The atmosphere was very exciting and the square was full of team members and supporters.
