For an island, the city has very peculiar landscape having one of the highest mountains in Spain, the third largest volcano in the world and tropical forests. It is one event that you are bound to enjoy whether you are an opera fan or not. The art form of opera lies deep into the Spanish culture and has existed since the middle of 17th century. It came to be known as zarzuela and typically consists of plays that alternate between sung and spoken scenes. Though it developed slowly in Spain than in other parts of the world, it soon became one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the country.

The Opera Festival forms part of the opera season. Held in the winter months, the opera season organizes a number of performances and concerts and is coordinated by the Tenerife Association of Friends of the Opera in alliance with The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. The Opera Festival is held every year in the Santa Cruz Auditorium in September end. The opera typically consists of performances by renowned artists including opera singers and music directors.

Apart from the famous opera artists of Spain, the organizers also invite different artists from all over the world to participate in the festival. Performances include humorous as well as tragic plays, duets and arias, characteristic of operas. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra also showcases new talent by holding performances by young artists which have gained recognition in the field of opera.

Flights to Tenerife are available from surrounding islands as well as all the major airports in Europe. There are two airports at Tenerife, viz. Tenerife Sur airport and the Tenerife Norte airport. The international flights usually land at the Tenerife Sur airport, where the Tenerife Norte airport caters to flights coming from mainland Spain.
