A new season of concerts by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra starts in November.

Attending a classical music concert on the island of Tenerife can be a special affair. Not only does the island have its own Symphony Orchestra, but it boasts one of the most spectacular concert venues in Europe. The stunning Auditorio de Tenerife was completed in 2003 after being designed by leading Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It is certainly a stunning structure with its curving shapes dominated by the 50 metre high white arch towering across the centre area. The building looks impressive from every angle but especially with the blue ocean as its backdrop.

Throughout the year the venue hosts all kinds of performing arts events from classical concerts, to operas, musicals and theatrical productions. Tickets for the Symphony Orchestra's new season are already on sale and the 2009-2010 programme of 18 concerts, over half of which are new for this year, commences on 13th November with a performance of Arafaybo by Gustavo Diaz-Jerez. There will also be a concert for violin and orchestra by Martinu and Beethoven's Symphony No3. Solo violinist Frank Zimmerman will also feature.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra say they will be using the new season to perform a more modern mix of compositions, using their new direction to feature more traditional Spanish and Canarian music by local composers like Diaz-Jerez and Coello, as well as less well known pieces by Mozart, Debussy and Strauss.

Throughout September and October the Auditorio de Tenerife also presented a series of other performances including the operas Salome by Strauss and Rossini's La Cenerentola, and a Jazz concert by Kike Perdomo and the Big Band.
