Virgen del Carmen is celebrated on the 16th of July by fishing communities in Sabinillas and Castillo. The significance of this festival is to give honour to the patron saint (Virgin of Carmen) for her protection over the fishermen and sailors. This festival takes place on the beach and starts off in the morning with mass at the parish church followed by a procession to the beach where an effigy of the Virgen will be placed on a fishing boat. This event usually lasts up to the early hours of the next day. Activities of this festival include boat decorations, masks, costumes, games and contest as well as water sports. There is also a lot of music and dancing from popular groups like Antodoto.

Fiesta de Santiago takes place on the 25th of July which is a national holiday throughout Spain. The fiesta is also a significant celebration of the patron saint. It involves a lot of street shows, exhibitions, music concerts and theatre performances. This particular time of the month is always filled up with visitors who have come to mark this special event. Music concerts also involve traditional dances and bagpipes. The climax of the fiesta is the offering to the Saint which is also known as 'The Fire of the Saint'. This ceremony takes place in the cathedral with huge incense burning.
