The International Music Festival of Santorini

Santorini,

Santorini is one of the most popular destinations in Greece and is known as the home of one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. With its large numbers of beautiful sandy beaches and guaranteed summer sunshine, it is the ideal destination for those looking for a relaxing break. Book flights to Santorini in time to see the world renowned International Music Festival which takes place from the end of July until the beginning of September and you won't be disappointed with what's on offer.

Artists from all over the world come here to perform in this international stage and scouts come to find new talents in music. The concerts take place in the Petros Nomikos Conference Centre, in the heart of Fira village, the capital of Santorini. Expect to see orchestras, jazz gigs, violin recitals, piano duets and operatic music. One evening is kept for Chamber Music only. Expect to see thousands of happy holiday makers and locals strutting their stuff around this picturesque sun drenched island as the sun goes down.

Once you have danced the night away, visit the famous crater of the volcano, known as Caldera, which is situated today in the middle of a 32 square miles basin of water. Around the basin, hanging on cliffs up to 985 ft height, one can admire some of the most beautiful traditional villages of the Cyclades. The lively colours of the white Cycladic houses and blue painted windows contrast stunningly against the black volcanic rocks rising from sea.

If you can tear yourself away from the awe inspiring site of the volcano, why not visit one of the quaint tavernas which litter the cobbled streets, hidden amongst the flowers and vine-clad whitewashed buildings. Greece is renowned for its culinary prowess and any visitor to Greece should sample Santorini's specialities including dishes made with fava lentils, which can be eaten hot or cold and are often cooked with smoked pork. Santorinian Cloro cheese and tomato keftes (fried tomato and onion rissoles) are another local speciality not to be missed.
