Fans of The Prodigy or The Gorillaz Sound System should book their flights to Bourgas now, because the organisation of SPIRIT in Burgas has announced that these artist will be present at the festival this year.
The 3rd edition of the SPIRIT of Burgas, a new Eastern European festival, will take place against the beautiful backdrop of Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast from the 13th to the 15th of August 2010. This festival is the first in Bulgaria to offer several stages and a diverse range of artists covering all genres of music.
The area is very impressive too and it's a great idea to stay for a bit longer and explore the surroundings. The largest resort on the Black Sea coast is Sunny Beach, with over 200 hotels. It gets very crowded here in summer because it is very popular. Sunny Beach does have a wide variety of accommodation options, some very modern, others more traditional.
One of the best local resorts is Duni. It's up the coast from Bourgas and its beaches - Alepou and Arkoutino - are ruggedly attractive. The coast here is flecked with tranquil coves. Nearby, you'll find the Vodna Lilia and Velyov Vir Via Pontica nature reserves, a point at which thousands of migrating storks, pelicans and birds of prey visit at the end of the summer. There are hotels near the beach where you can stay - all of a very high standard.
The old town of Nessebar is Unesco-protected and one of the best areas on the Black Sea Coast in which to stay. Perched on a pretty peninsula for over 3,000 years, it contains lots of 14th-century churches, quaint wooden houses, old style cobblestone lanes, tiny squares, and lovely cafes. There is a giant windmill in the town that is lit up at night. The churches here have lovely facades, and the town itself is a vibrant, lively, and clean place to stay or visit for a day trip.
Golden Sands is one of the more traditional, older Bulgarian resorts, with a woodland backdrop and fronted by two miles of beach. Proximity to the city of Varna gives it a bit of an urban edge. Golden Sands is not only popular with families, but with club-goers, too. There are themed hotels, wellness spa hotels, and a higher standard of hotels being built throughout this resort.
If you venture a bit further south of Bourgas into the Bulgarian-Turkish border without leaving the Black Sea coast, Strandja Mountain area has unspoilt forests and rivers with many unique varieties of flora and fauna.
