Three Months of Music in Corfu

The island of Corfu is much more than a fantastic holiday destination. For many years it has been a favourite destination for British ex-pats, and has a cultural diversity that few Greek islands can match.
For those who have booked flights to Corfu and happen to love classical music, there is a nice surprise waiting. Located in Corfu town is the Ionian University, whose Department of Music Studies contributes to a series of concert performances througout the summer. The concerts started back in June and have included a diverse range of performers from choirs and jazz bands to piano recitals and chamber music groups. In total almost 40 performances make up the programme which has included events all over the island including different venues in Corfu Town, Lefkimmi and Paxos. Entrance to most concerts will be free of charge.
On the 8th of August, the last day of the programme, there will be two free concerts. The Gastouri Philharmonic Society will perform 'Omonoia' at the Achillion Palace at 21.00 to celebrate that it was founded 112 years ago. At the same time, the Korakiana Philharmonic music ensemble, choir and dance group will perform 'Spyros Samaras' at Ano Korakiana.
