To 3 resorts of Lanzarote
Booking flights to Lanzarote is a step in the right direction when your office pallor is in the need of some tanning and your cramped up back is in the need of some wholesome swimming and relaxing. However, choosing which Lanzarotean resort to visit can be challenging, as this Canarian Island has so many interesting sites. Let our top 3 resorts inspire you!
The most established of the purpose-built resorts of Puerto del Carmen, lies 16 km (10 miles) west of the Lanzarotean capital, Arrecife. Playa del Carmen is a very lively place with many restaurants, late-night bars and discos, but extends into quieter, newer developments such as Playa de los Pocillos. It’s about 20 minutes by foot to get to the huge, sandy sweep of Pocillos bay, one of the best beaches on the island.
Clinging to the rocky coast south of Puerto del Carmen is also one of Europe’s most prestigious yacht marinas: Puerto Calero. This resort displays the appeal of Lanzarote to a chic, well-to-do crowd. The harbour has 420 floating wharves and is capable of berthing boats of from 8 to 75 m (26 to 246 ft) in length, and a ravishing selection of luxury craft can often be seen moored here. To enjoy Puerto Calero, there is no need to be a keen yachtsman or even to step on board a boat at all. Many day visitors arrive by road and come simply to stroll or to enjoy a lazy lunch on the terrace of one of the many excellent bars and restaurants on the quayside. In addition to the resort’s marine activities, there are sports facilities, an art gallery and a museum.
