Unusual Events in Sharm

The Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh is best known as a winter sun destination and a favourite location for Scuba divers, but other, more unusual, events also find their place there.
Year round sun and warm temperatures have made the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh a thriving tourist destination. Divers appreciate the warm clear waters of the Red Sea and most hotels there have their own dive school. There are various locations close to Sharm and further afield on the Sinai Peninsula to explore. But there are other events that add to Sharm's charm and identity. Marathon running and mountain biking in the nearby desert is growing in popularity and sports such as squash have found a place in Sharm. As well as the British, Italian tourists also like Sharm and last autumn an Italian group organised a week of tango dancing. The event that started on 7th November featured a whole week of activities including 10 lessons from 3 different teachers.
Anyone taking part in tango week did not have to forgo their normal holiday as they got all day on the beach. The tangoing started at 5pm each evening with participants being divided into 3 ability groups, each receiving two lessons every evening. After the formal instruction, the teachers performed a professional show for everyone to enjoy. This is just one of the more unusual events to be found in Sharm el Sheikh every year, with many others like go-karting and bowling to try out.
