The initial settlements at this location, called Real de Las Palmas, explored the area around a ravine here. They then moved ahead into the towns named Triana and Vegueta on the right side and Barranco de Guiniguada on the left. Initially the Castillian Army encampment was located on the hillside close to the Barranco de Guiniguada where you will find the chapel called San Antonio Abad chapel. The elaborate highway of Las Palmas called Calle Juan de Quesada today extends beyond the Barranco de Guiniguada and assists people out of the town into the central part of the island. The highway is the landmark that divides the two historic sides of Las Palmas.
