Every year in October, a festival locally known as the Bodrum Cup is held to celebrate one of the Turkish city's most notable products, the "gulet", a kind of small, wooden yacht that is still made there today. Although the festival is becoming increasingly popular with travellers keen to see local colour and something truly out of the ordinary, it is nonetheless surprisingly economical to get flights to Bodrum in October and catch a little winter sun.
