A brief overview
Obergurgl and Hochgurgl share one of the highest ski areas in
Austria. Set in the spectacular Oetz Valley, the slopes reach over 3000m,
resulting in reliable snow conditions from as early as November to as late in
the season as May. Both areas, linked by a gondola and bus service, have
developed from farming settlements into quality resorts offering convenient,
high altitude skiing. Obergurgl's resort centre has little traffic and numerous
shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, many of which have a great atmosphere at
the end of the day. Obergurgl does not promise to be one of Austria's liveliest
resorts though live music is not unusual in some of the bars later on in the
evenings. Hochgurgl is no more than a cluster of quality hotels set on the
mountainside offering superb convenience for the slopes and a relaxing mountain
base. These resorts attract a loyal following of beginners, intermediates and
families every winter thanks to snowsure slopes, great quality accommodation
and a relaxed resort atmosphere.
