A brief overview

As one of the oldest resorts in France, Montgenevre retains the personal feel of a small village whilst allowing easy access to the mighty 'Milky Way' ski area just over the border in Italy. The town became fashionable in the 1930s and has remained traditional and pretty, even as the skiing has expanded. The main ski area is easily accessible from within the heart of the village, offering stunning scenery. The immediate runs are particularly suited to beginners and intermediates whilst the more advanced skier can enjoy the wider area. Famously snow-sure, Montgenevre has one of the best records in the Southern Alps, receiving regular dumps of snow from storms forced up the valley from the west. Recently a bypass was built diverting the busy main road from the centre of the village, meaning heavy through traffic is a thing of the past. There has never been a better time to visit this high, snow-sure resort.
